Das Café in der Gartenakademie
This café might be my favorite brunch spot in Berlin for a sunny day. Sit outside in the garden and bask in the sunlight or opt for an indoor seat, located in a lively greenhouse. Not only is the atmosphere lovely, the food is satiating and delicious as well. We tried the classic English breakfast and Eggs Benedict and were quite pleased with both. The Eggs Benedict was especially memorable: it was served on thick German bread and a bed of greens, which made the dish more hearty and interesting. If you’re in the mood for Kaffee und Kuchen, this is a solid spot as well, they have plenty of delicious-looking desserts on display. I can recommend the blackberry cheesecake which was a nice mix of tart and creamy.
Plus, you don’t have to end your outing there. Spend some time exploring their plant-filled greenhouse rooms and outdoor plant store. There’s so much to discover and it’s hard not to go home with your arms full of potted plants and seedlings. For €6 you can expand your plant roster even more and head over to the neighboring botanical garden. It’s a nice place to spend an afternoon, plus there are discounts if you visit after 5 PM or on Thursdays.

Café Strauss
Here you can enjoy a peaceful café located adjacent to a local cemetery. Sound strange? Maybe a little, but the result is a wonderfully reflective space where you're free to start your day with a cup of coffee, toast, spread, or slice of cake. The inside is classical and cozy, while the outside is open and airy, framed by brick arches, green shrubbery, and grey tombstones.

Father Carpenter
Father Carpenter is one of my favorite brunch spots in the neighborhood. I just think their courtyard is so pretty and picturesque, and simply being present here puts me in good spirits. During the summer their rosemary spritz and iced chai are both super nice choices, and their house Egg Benedict is equally as tasty! They’ve honestly gotten way too pricey for me to regularly visit, but I’ve had a great experience with each encounter.

Bonvivant
For a vegetarian feast that will be a delight for the senses, head on over to Berlin’s swanky and charming Schöneberg eatery Bonvivant. The interior design exudes modernity and sophistication, making it one of Berlin’s most luxurious brunch spots. On top of that, they also have the honor of being Berlin’s first Michelin star brunch eatery. If that’s not enough reason to visit, then their sweet caramel and raspberry brioche pancakes or their earthy chimichurri scamorza toast should certainly do the trick.

Sunday Brunch at Hotel Grenzfall
Dreaming of a buffet Sunday brunch? Look no further than Hotel Grenzfall! Conveniently located just steps from the Berlin Wall Memorial, perfect if you want to pair a bit of historical sightseeing with an indulgent breakfast. Every first and third Sunday of the month they offer a decadent brunch served on white tablecloths. The brunch costs €29 per person, but children up to the age of 14 only pay their age. Along with unlimited brunch, you’ll also get water, juice, and tea, along with one welcome drink and coffee drink, which you can order from your table. On my recent visit, I opted for a cappuccino and glass of champagne. You can find the buffet brunch in two rooms, which offer a mix of German and international cuisine, all home-cooked in small batches.
The interior is just lovely — it’s bright and airy, surrounded by their gardens. Taking time to relax outside really completes the experience, you’ll find yourself entranced by their whimsical statues and decor, complimented by a pond, plenty of lush plants, and lots of seating. Bring your coffee out and enjoy this little pocket of peace, miraculously amidst Berlin’s busy central district.

Aera
Plant-based and gluten-free peeps: listen up! Aera is a fully gluten-free bakery with plenty of great plant-based choices. What stands out most to me is their vegan grilled cheese, which is easily one of the best vegan sandwiches I’ve ever had. They also serve a classic grilled cheese which I’ve heard is also really good. Plus, their galettes are nice too! Their interior is gorgeous too, with minimalist decor framed by walls painted in a vibrant royal blue color. They have two locations, and although the Mitte one might stand out a bit more in terms of beauty, the Charlottenburg location is also a lovely contemporary space.

SOFI
This new-wave bakery is located inside a charming and quiet courtyard in the center of Mitte. The inside is cozy and minimalist with an open kitchen, whereas the outside is airy and peaceful. You’ll encounter a nice mix of loaves, pastries, sandwiches, plates, and cakes. Their bread is thick and light on the inside and crispy and chewy on the outside. Their morning plate is a nice start to the day and comes with sliced bread, whipped butter, soft-boiled egg, sliced cheese, and an (unnecessarily) generous helping of flaky salt. They also have rotating specials including a leek and kimchi grilled cheese that I’ve been eager to try.

21 Gramm
21 Gramm is a bewitching cafe built into a former chapel, which was mainly used for funeral services in the past. Nowadays the classic style of the chapel mixes well with the new contemporary manner, and their unique, yet unpretentious setting is sure to win you over whether you sit inside or outside in their stunning courtyard, complete with terracotta brick and arches. I'm a big fan of their breakfast burger, but you also can’t go wrong with their buttermilk pancakes, which are made with an apple and rose compote, crème fraîche, basil, salted pumpkin seeds, and cardamom syrup.

Rocket + Basil
This stellar spot has been popular since they first opened their doors. Now that their lines are much shorter (although you’ll still have to get there early to avoid waiting on weekends) we can all enjoy their Middle Eastern and traditional Western brunch fusion which includes rotating goodies like their pistachio rosewater cake and flaky sausage roll. Their interior is also really pretty, and it’s just overall a very lovely spot, although a bit on the smaller side. However, seating doubles in the warmer months since they have outdoor spots. The inside is simple and airy, with pastel walls and a cozy vibe.
I’m also a fan of their fried potatoes served with eggs, greens, vegetables, herbs, and Greek yogurt. Their coffee is also strong and well-made, I especially like their flat whites. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is their cheese sandwich which was just too heavy and oily for me. On a later visit I got to try their carrot sandwich and carrot plate and wow. . . both dishes were similar but with different herbs, sauces, and details that made them both worth ordering.

Neni
Neni should be put on your brunch list just for the killer view of the park and zoo, which is especially nice in the summertime when the trees are lush. Although there are less pricey brunches to be had in Berlin, the atmosphere, presentation, view, and service make it a real treat. It’s on the tenth floor so you get a stunning view of the surrounding area, and the inside decor is both trendy and timeless. Be sure to order the sweet potato fries with mango aioli sauce, it’s delicious! The hummus trio and the roasted tahini cauliflower were my favorite dishes here.

Hallesches Haus
As soon as you walk through the terracotta brick-lined archways, you’ll know Hallesches Haus is worth the visit just for the atmosphere. The interior is both airy and industrial, I absolutely fell in love with the space during my first visit. The general store is also pretty cute, I especially like the skincare sold there. They’ve got a lively outdoor patio that’s great in warm weather as well. I typically prefer their pastries to their entrees, but on my last visit I tried an epic house brunch filled with organic and fresh ingredients, and an equally delish granola plate, so I think I’m an all-around fan now. Their menu is seasonal so there’s always something new to try.

La Maison
La Maison is a tranquil little spot along the canal where you can find a shady terrace, tasty French pastries, and a picturesque atmosphere. You’ll find a nice mix of pastries, soups, salads, quiches, and sandwiches. On the weekends you’ll additionally come across goodies like brioche sandwiches and more types of tartes and cake. Get there early on Saturdays and Sundays to get your pick of treats and easily find a spot. Pair your brunch with a lovely walk along the canal. They also have a newish location (also in Kreuzberg!), but it’s not as pretty as the first.

Blumental
For a feel-good breakfast in a modern space look no further than Blumental. They’re a plant-forward brunch spot bordering Kreuzberg home to tasty vegan cakes and excellent healthy dishes packed with seasonal produce and flavor. Their staff is super friendly too so you’ll feel right at home. Be sure to take a peek at their composting machine ‘Berta’ in the back of the restaurant which takes care of all their organic waste.
The interior is both homey and cleverly designed, with a lovely mix of colors, plants, and stand-out decor that makes you want to cozy up with a cup of coffee and take in all the details. Even their bathroom feels fresh, with beautiful teal and coral tile, which is highlighted with enough playful lighting to make you feel like a mermaid.
