17+ of the Best Nutritious and Delicious Restaurants in Berlin

Last updated: June 6, 2023

Despite its reputation for indulgence, Berlin still has a flourishing health and nutrition community. While most people in the city’s 5AM club might just be awake because they’re home from a night of techno, the city as a whole is a wonderful place to enjoy nourishing meals, invigorating walks, and a balanced healthy lifestyle.

While I enjoy all kinds of food in Berlin, sometimes all I want when I go out is a sustainable and fresh bowl with plenty of vegetables. No matter your individual nutrition goals or what your definition of health is, I still think it’s important to enjoy whatever food you eat because healthy food should not sacrifice taste or enjoyment.

Without further delay here is a guide on 17+ restaurants in Berlin that are fantastic if you want to grab a balanced, fresh, and healthy bite to eat.

Stadtsalat

Salads and bowls done right. Stadtsalat offers surprisingly filling and flavor packed bowls with creative ingredient combinations. My favorite is the Vegan Indian Summer which comes with organic quinoa, rocket, shredded carrot, pea guacamole, turmeric cauliflower, pickled red onion, and organic tofu. All topped with a mango curry dressing. It is sooo good!

HOLY FLAT!

They pride themselves in being ‘healthy, natural, environmentally friendly, and as diverse as their hometown Berlin.’ They really hit the mark with their pleasant mix of wraps, bowls, and smoothies. Their Coco Bowl is a good choice and is an Asian inspired bowl featuring ingredients like roasted mushrooms, marinated tofu, and pickled cabbage.

Caphe Hoa

Caphe Hoa is my go-to spot if I’m craving a nourishing and fresh Vietnamese meal. Any of their bowls are a great option, which usually come with fresh veggies, a yummy carb, tasty vegan protein, and a great sauce to bring it all together. You can also get a small or large portion depending on how hungry you are.

Café Haferkater

Nothing like oats to start the day. Café Haferkater gets your day going with fiber and flavor. A few of their Berlin locations are at train stations too, making it possible to eat healthy on the go. Not a sweet fan? No worries! They’ve got savoury porridge too. Plus, they’re fully vegetarian and their takeaway packaging is compostable.

Blumental

Blumental is a plant-forward eatery that serves delightful brunches starring a mix of fermented, raw, and marinated vegetables, paired with succulent sauces, fresh sourdough, and options for protein additions including egg and tofu.

Superfoods Berlin

Superfoods has excellent healthy in-house and to-go options like chia pudding, overnight oats, smoothies, Açaí bowls, and salads. It’s in a ritzy area of Charlottenburg so it’s not cheap, but I feel healthier just walking inside so I visit on occasion.

Rocket + Basil

Rocket + Basil is one of my favorite brunch spots in Berlin and I love that I always leave feeling fulfilled and energized. They’re a Persian-inspired brunch and lunch spot with savoury dishes that come with mounds of veggies, legumes, and herbs. Their sesame roasted carrot sandwich, potato veggie and egg plate, and mushroom carrot kale medley on sourdough dish are just a few of their best offerings. Open on weekends for dine in, plus to-go throughout the week.

Ataya Caffe

This African and Italian plant-based fusion spot is tasty! The colorful dishes speak for themselves and you won’t have trouble getting your five-a-day here.

Hallesches Haus

Although you may be limited for choice, Hallesches Haus delivers pretty delish brunch food in a lush environment. Their menu is seasonal but it stays relatively consistent, typically just switching out a few ingredients every few months depending on what’s more in season. Their classic ‘full house’ is a safe bet and comes with some sort of bread (last time I was there it was waffle, it’s currently focaccia), protein, pickled vegetable, fresh vegetable, and cooked vegetable. Plus a nice seasoning and sauce. Their granola bowl is also a moreish choice.

Akkawy

From noon to 8PM (with the exception of Mondays) you’ll find great hummus plates served with pita and salad, and topped with your choice of ingredients like fava beans, beetroot, eggplant, mushroom, or organic egg. You can also pick from heart-healthy hot dishes like lentil soup, baked cauliflower, and Arabic shakshuka. Delicious and nutritious!

EasyPeasy

EasyPeasy is a gluten-free vegan breakfast and lunch spot with thick smoothie bowls including fruits like Açaí, pineapple, and mango. They also have savoury dishes including creations like chickpea-based omelette, scrambled tofu, carrot salmon, and pea guacamole.

Daluma

Although I think Daluma can be overpriced for what you get they’re a pretty well-known health food spot in Berlin so I wanted to include them. They also have a lot of interesting stuff including some niche nutritive food here like bone broth, probiotic muesli, raw no-bake desserts, and gluten free pasta.

House of Do An

House of Do An is a wholesome eatery that merges classic Western brunch dishes and Vietnamese food. The end result is cozy, comforting, and overall still pretty healthy. Their small plates start at €3.90 making it easy to try a few tasty creations. You’ll find multi-ethnic egg dishes, porridge, chia pudding, fruit pancakes, summer rolls, and more.

Citronella

You’ll find no shortage of nutrient-rich smoothies and juices here. For something a little more satiating opt for an energy ball, bagel sandwich, savoury bowl, or smoothie bowl.

Plant Base

Plant Base is a classic vegan breakfast and lunch spot that promises that everything from the nut-based feta to the crispy bacon chips are made in house and vegan. Plus their food is mostly organic and locally-sourced.

Flamingo Fresh Food Bar

Find a good selection of sandwiches, salads, soups, and bowls here. You’ll find couscous salads, organic egg dishes, turkey and veggie sandwiches, and more.

Avocado Club

Avocado Club is more proof that healthy food can be fun and flavorful. Their breakfast menu offers smoothie bowls, miso aubergine, salmon and vegetables on toast, and more. You’ll also find more indulgent options like fried chicken on waffle with avocado and salad (very good btw). Their lunch menu expands to additionally propose hearty salads, bowls, and protein plates. For dinner you’ll find dishes like salmon ceviche, parsnip soup, and chimichurri on cauliflower and sweet potato. Oh, and as the name suggests just about all of their dishes come with a creative addition of avocado, or at the very least it’s presented as a not-so-subtle topping.

Grüngut

This quaint little Mittagessen spot is only open for lunch for a few hours on weekdays, but if you live in the neighborhood or happen to be in the area you’ll be treated to a frequently rotating menu (with a handful of staples) of fresh homemade food.

Etc.

Anything else? While I haven’t given them a try quite yet, Dean & David and Beets & Roots are both well-known healthy salad/bowl eateries with dozens of establishments in (and around) Germany. If you’re in Berlin it shouldn’t be too hard to locate a nearby location. Ma’loa is another chain located in Berlin and around the country offering Poke bowls which are packed with healthy fats, carbs, protein, vegetables, and tasty sauces. They all also have plant-based options too! Lucy’s is a newly opened health foods café just north of Rosenthaler Platz that I’d like to check out soon as well.

Enjoy!
