Where to Brunch in Berlin: Korean Egg Drop Sandwich Edition
Last updated: August 11, 2024
Titled after their namesake restaurant in Korea, the Korean Egg Drop Sandwich (에그드랍) is quickly growing in popularity in Berlin, and for a good reason! They’re absolutely delicious and help fill the breakfast sandwich gap in Berlin’s culinary scene. Fluffy eggs, melted cheese, and slightly spicy and tangy mayo sauce sandwiched between two slices of toasted brioche — I mean what’s not to like?!
Plus, at most of these eateries, you can typically add on more tasty ingredients as well! Whatever suits your fancy. Here are the best places in Berlin for trying this decadent and desirable sandwich.
44 Brekkie
The brioche sandwich bar that took Prenzlauer Berg (and the city) by storm is worth the hype. Each sandwich comes together so wonderfully: perfectly toasted bread, expertly scrambled eggs, quality cheddar, and secret sauce. You can enjoy it in their classic style or build an even better sandwich with one of their add-ons. May I recommend their bacon, double cheese, and garlic version?? YUM!
They’ve also opened up a second and third eatery, this time in Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. Their sandwiches are truly mouthwatering. A must-visit for egg and brioche lovers!
Price: €7 - €10
Try: Bacon, Double Cheese & Garlic
Rykestraße 44 | Prenzlauer Berg
Gabriel-Max-Straße 2 | Friedrichshain
Böckhstraße 30 | Kreuzberg
Faves
Faves is one of the most recent additions to this list, but they’re sure to be a crowd favorite. Faves is home to what is likely the thriftiest egg drop in Berlin, but you wouldn’t know it by the quality! The classic version is pretty tasty and makes for a very pleasant brunch. They offer some fun versions as well, including a feta and sucuk version that results in a perfectly salty and savory sandwich. You’ll also find some nice Levantine tapas here for fair prices! I recommend giving their hummus a try.
Price: €6.90 - €9.50
Try: Feta & Sucuk
Grünberger Straße 83 | Friedrichshain
Puffle Bees
The egg drop sandwiches here are very good. When visiting we tried both their beef and scampi variations. The scampi one was served with a classic sriracha mayo sauce and asparagus, while their beef variation came with cucumber and toasted sesame sauce. You’ve just got to try it for yourself!
I also need to revisit soon to try their fried chicken and avocado versions as well! This eatery also sells croffles (croissant waffles) with all kinds of toppings, which makes for the perfect dessert after a savory main. Paired with a lavender latte, I was in heaven!
Price: €9 - €10
Try: Bulgogi
Brunnenstraße 165 | Mitte

The Rabbit Café
This café also has not one, but TWO adorable resident Shiba Inus, and quite frankly that’s enough of a reason to visit. If for some reason that’s not enough, they also serve a truly incredible egg drop sandwich. It’s a contender for the best sandwich on this list and part of their edge is the fluffy buttered brioche the sandwiches are served on. There are also a few sauces added giving it great creamy and spicy flavor notes.
It’s so thick that it’s easier to eat it with a fork and knife! The base price is €7 which isn’t bad considering the quality and size. You can also add caramelized onions, avocado, smoked salmon, bacon, or Bulgogi for a few bucks extra. The Bulgogi is fantastic but now costs a whopping €4 extra (it was €2 extra for so long!).
Price: €7 - €11
Try: Classic or Bulgogi
Strelitzer Straße 62 | Mitte
Café de Luna
Café de Luna sells a pretty good egg drop! All of their egg drop sandwiches come with avocado and you can additionally add bacon, bulgogi, or oyster to spruce up your sandwich. Visit when you’re also in the mood for cake as well because their cakes are so delicious. Their matcha crepe one is so creamy (I can’t believe it’s vegan!!) and I had my eye on their unicorn cheesecake as well, but their last slice was ordered by the party in front of us. Next time!
The egg drops, on the other hand, were in abundance. I have to say their Bulgogi variation is quite tasty and expertly seasoned. These egg drops have gone up in price quite a bit in recent years (I suppose so has everything else though), making them overall the priciest on this list! The quality has stayed up too though.
Price: €10.90 - €15.90
Try: Bacon or Bulgogi
Kastanienallee 36A | Mitte
The KaFe
The KaFe is a smaller, modest brunch spot blending Asian flavors with some Western influences. Their menu includes items like bánh mì, breakfast rice bowls, salad bowls, and of course, egg drops. Their egg drops are a standout, bursting with flavor in every bite. I tried the avocado variation and was very happy with it! Don't miss their creamy iced matcha — it's a 10/10!
Price: €8.50 - €9.50
Try: Avocado
Kastanienallee 24 | Prenzlauer Berg
Café Eggrything
Cafe Eggrything is a newer bite-sized brunch spot that serves egg drop sandwiches, sweet croffles, and creative drinks. Their Bulgogi egg drop gets two thumbs up from me! It was hearty and quite fresh. Their vegan egg drop was satisfying and so flavorful, but they were out of vegan brioche when I visited so it was more of a mushroom and baby greens sandwich on sourdough than an egg drop. There was also nothing to replace the eggy part so that was also a bit less interesting. I will give them props for having a plant-based option though!
As for their croffles, I can recommend their Oreo creme variation; their pistachio strawberry take also looks divine.
Price: €9 - €12
Try: Bulgogi or Mushroom Vegan
Gleimstraße 12 | Prenzlauer Berg
The Visit Coffee Roastery
The Visit serves their egg drop open-faced so you’ll probably want to fork-and-knife this one. It’s also served with a side salad made up of arugula, tomatoes, olives, and honey mustard dressing. Not much more to say because they only offer one kind with no additional toppings, but they serve up a pretty satisfying sandwich overall. This is also an excellent café for working on your laptop.
Price: €12.50
Try: Classic
Adalbertstraße 9 | Kreuzberg
Breggs
While I appreciate the variety of ingredient combinations offered (from burger patties to truffles to roast beef slices), I just wasn’t as big of a fan of their take. I tried the Mr. Breggs which is more of a classic egg drop and the Mrs. Breggs which comes with ingredients like pulled chicken, caramelized onions, and coleslaw. If you’re in the neighborhood and are craving an egg drop they’re still totally worth a try, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for one. However, I will note that I have been meaning to give them another try since I’ve only visited once and it was just a couple weeks after they first opened. I think next time I’ll try their mushroom version!
They also offer snacks like tater tots which look like they could be tasty!
Price: €7.50 - €11.90
Oranienburger Straße 84 | Mitte
