My To-Eat List | Berlin 2021

Last updated: August 23, 2021

I now have over 400 saved pins on Google Maps - just for Berlin. It’s a mix of things, some that are easy to remember why I saved them (restaurants, cafes, 24 hour vet clinics, my favorite spätis, etc), and others not as much (random addresses that consist of old yoga meet up points and specific photo spots). But it’s the kind of chaos I can handle and love.

The list is predominantly eateries, some that I’ve been holding off on visiting because I’d rather experience them by dining in, and others that I just haven’t gotten around to yet (I mean it is a long list). With that in mind, I thought I’d share a few of them here. Maybe you’ve been and can confirm with me that these places are indeed really good and I should visit as soon as I can, maybe you’ll get some inspiration for your to-eat list, or maybe this is just my way of manifesting that restaurants will be able to properly reopen in Berlin soon so I can finally visit.

Kin Za

I’ve been dying to try Khachapuri for sooo long and the finished product is basically an art form. For cheese lovers like myself, this bread-y, cheesy, egg-filled dish is for you. The Chkmeruli, which is a fried chicken dish served in a walnuts, herb, and cream sauce, looks unbelievable as well. Oh- and their hummus plate! Look so delicious!

Update: I visited and can confirm this place is very delicious. The Khachapuri was very heavy, but still very good. I think my favorite dish was a toss up between the aubergine plate and the chicken! The walnut, herb, and cream sauce really lived up to its reputation. I would for sure visit again, probably not for awhile though because it’s on the pricier side of places I typically visit, and I still have so many places on my list! Would definitely recommend though. ☺

Gnam Pasta Factory

Fresh homemade pasta in Berlin. The reviews are killer and it just looks so tasty! I can’t decide if I want to try the bolognese or carbonara first.

Plus, it’s not too far from my new apartment and I’m looking for a new neighborhood pasta spot now that I’m no longer near Santa Mamma’s Saturday hang out spot at the Bötzow market.

Secret Garden Vegan Sushi

Multiple friends (vegans and omnis!) have told me Secret Garden is a must. Their dishes seem super creative so I’m excited to visit!

Venue

As someone who can never decide what to order their mini-plate brunches which come in amounts of three, five, or seven assorted mini-dishes look perfect for me. Their choices look totally drool-worthy too, from their cheese, nut, and fig plate to their caramel pancakes.

Black Apron

I keep seeing videos of people visiting this bakery and trying their goodies. I appreciate their modern take on classic pastries, and their dulce de leche cruffin looks especially good!

Gözleme

Two Turkish dishes I’ve been wanting to try are Gözleme and Manti, and I hear this place is stellar at both. I’ve been told to make sure to ask for extra garlic.

Humble Pie

Humble Pie serves southern comfort food from the states. They’re of course known for their sweet pies, but from what I’ve been told their Nashville-style hot chicken in between two buttermilk biscuit halves really steal the show. Wild that you can find this kind of American food in Berlin, but it’s really been growing in popularity!

Follow along on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with where their food truck is.

Thai Park

I absolutely love Thai food, so I eat it whenever I can. Some Thai spots I’ve really enjoyed in Berlin are myThais and li.ke (the latter is especially tasty and plant-based), and I’ve also been recommended Dan Thai Food.

However, I’ve heard Thai Park is next level. During the summer over 100 food stalls set themselves up and serve various kinds of Thai food. It was canceled last year so I’m really hoping they’re able to open this year!

Update: Thai Park was amazing, and honestly even better than I expected! It’s a very affordable food market, and there’s so much to try. Everything I had was tasty so be sure to do a loop through the market to look at all the stalls before purchasing from a few stalls. I only wish I had come hungrier! There’s also no shortage of options for plant-based eaters.

44 Brekkie

I mainly want to visit for their ‘Egg Drop’ breakfast sandwiches which start at €4.50 and look sehr lecker. Each sandwich is served on toasted brioche with secret sauce, cheddar cheese, and scrambled eggs. Plus you can opt for extra toppings like ham, avocado, bacon, garlic, and salmon with capers.

Update: I tried this one and it was so tasty! We had to wait about fifteen or so minutes for the sandwiches to be ready, but it was easily worth it because the sandwiches were so hot and fresh. I got the double cheese, garlic, and bacon version and it was perfect. 10/10.

Sandunga Mezcaleria

I love trying Berlin’s take on Mexican food so naturally Sandunga Mezcaleria is on my to-eat list. I’ve really been sold on the tacos, but I’m sure I’ll try a few things when I visit.

Golda

Golda is the newest establishment on this list, and they’re actually still getting established! They’re currently a pop up shop selling food from a window at Cafe Pilz in Neukölln. Their menu changes every so often, but right now they offer two stuffed pita sandwiches including sabich, which are filled with eggplant, boiled egg, potato, tahini, pickled onion, and herbs. Their other option replaces some of the ingredients, and includes marinated chicken and lamb. They look so tasty, and their reviews tell me this is going to be a real treat.

Update: I visited Golda and liked it so much that it ended up on my Berlin Vegan Food Guide (simply ask for the vegan version when ordering). My one complaint is that they need to find a permanent stop in Berlin! Their pop up shop is currently closed, but they plan on having another pop up eventually. Keep up with them on Instagram to see where they’ll end up next!

Vöner

I have heard many mixed reviews about Vöner, but I still must try it myself! I think the idea is very cool, they sell a variety of vegan dishes and desserts, and their specialties are popular Berlin food veganized. The vegan döner kebab especially intrigues me.

Motif Wein

I’ve followed Motif Wein on Instagram for about a year now, but still have not managed to visit. They offer natural and organic wines at reasonable prices, and have a cute tasting room too!

Update: I visited Motif Wein on my birthday and it was a very sweet experience! The staff helped me select a nice glass of orange wine, and I’d love to visit again at a time where it’s less busy.

Let’s see which of these manage to get checked off this year! Let me know what restaurants are on your to-eat list, Berlin or otherwise.
