The Best 100% Vegan Dinner Spots in Berlin

Last updated: August 8, 2024

If you’re searching for Berlin vegan dinner spots look no further! There are a few things these fully plant-based restaurants have in common:

  1. They serve delicious food (according to me).

  2. They have a lovely ambiance (also, according to me).

  3. They’re located within the Ringbahn (it just worked out that way, but I thought you should know).

These Berlin spots are perfect for a cozy dinner date night or a sweet meal out with friends. Plus the majority of them allow for reservations. BTW — if you’re on the hunt for more plant-based eateries in Berlin, find plenty more here.

Prenzlauer Berg

Emira Sushi

Emira serves up my favorite vegan sushi in Berlin! With a dolled-up interior, thoughtfully presented dishes, a creative menu, and inviting staff — Emira sets itself up to be an all-around 10/10 experience. Start off with a glass of their homemade iced tea (it’s the right amount of sweetness and just hits different here), then follow up with a few rolls. Some of my favorite rolls of theirs include Fire Phoenix, Wandering Samurai, and Mushroom Power, but it’s hard to go wrong here. It’s sushi so you will have to order a few rolls to feel full, but they’ve got a stellar range of options, so no biggie.

IV Restaurant

Moody lighting, velvet seating, and a dark color palette make this Vietnamese eatery perfect for a lush date night. Be sure to try a few appetizers: their mushroom scallops, duck wraps, and shrimp tacos are especially tasty. They nail their plant-based meat ingredients, whoever prepares their soy and seitan deserves an award. The entrees are pretty good as well, plus the portions are rather generous. Their sleek vibe, satiating mains, and terrific service make them an all-around excellent spot for date night.

Försters

Försters is a pleasant and warm sit-down vegan eatery that focuses on regional, local, and seasonal cuisine. Their Schnitzel dish is a stand-out item, as is their Knödeln, which are a type of boiled dumpling. Here they are served with veggies and a cream sauce that make for a hearty comfort meal. They also sometimes offer Käsespatzle, a type of creamy and cheesy pasta dish similar to American-style mac n’ cheese. This restaurant primarily serves a mix of German, Austrian, and Italian food and offers a mix of standard dishes, as well as a few seasonal creations.

Chay Long

Chay Long is one of my favorite Vietnamese spots in Berlin! They’ve got a lot of heart and cook up a beautiful mix of hearty quality dishes. Their fish noodle soup is a fantastic entree. It’s more of a rare find as far as Vietnamese plant-based dishes go, and between the fish cakes, meatballs, and noodles, I find it to be a very filling and engrossing meal. Their chicken curry is also very good, they totally nail this classic dish. Try an app or two while you’re at it, their Pyramid Dumpling is a savory and delicious way to start your time there. Chay Long has a second eatery located in Kreuzberg.

CÁI

Cái is an unassuming cozy eatery off Schönhauser Allee. Not too fancy, but they’ve got a pretty solid menu featuring primarily Chinese noodle dishes filled with Sichuan spices. On my first visit, they gave me quite an enjoyably spicy plate, but on my second visit, our table’s dishes didn’t have even a trace of spice, despite all the dishes being labeled with multiple chili peppers. The food was still yummy, but if you like your food truly spicy let them know when you order so they can deliver!

It’s also possible to bring your own drinks to the eatery, and at the time of writing this, they do not have a corkage fee. So bring over a bottle of wine and enjoy some Sichuan goodness.

Hum Vegan

This restaurant is a reliable spot for yummy Vietnamese food. You’ll find plenty of great classic curry and noodle dishes, plus harder-to-find dishes like Ca Bung (herbal eggplant soup) and Cha Ha Noi (tofu and mushrooms wrapped in seaweed served with vegetables and fragrant rice). The menu is long so you’re sure to find something interesting.

Raumerstraße 38 | Prenzlauer Berg

Froindlichst

Froindlichst is an airy eatery that radiates quite a charming atmosphere, particularly in the evening. For lunch and dinner, they offer a variety of plates such as burgers, pizzas, bowls, and burritos. They are a pricier spot, but worth a visit once to try their take on comfort cuisine.

Friedrichshain

Secret Garden

Secret Garden has a great take on vegan sushi, and it’s pretty cool to try lox made out of carrot and tuna made of tofu. The portions are a little small for the price (a bit like standard sushi), but like classic sushi, they’re quite enjoyable nonetheless. My favorite roll I tried here is Golden Koi which consists of black rice, avocado, carrot lox, cucumber, butternut squash, and almond basil pesto. It makes for a fun mix of flavors! The interior is thematic and inviting, with a curated blend of Japanese and wooden furnishings.

Li.ke: Serious Thai Vegan

Li.ke is home to some of the tastiest Thai food I’ve had in Berlin, vegan or otherwise. Much of their food is tapas style so you can easily try several of their best dishes. Their tapas are where it’s at for me — you should try their Tau Hu Thod, which are marinated tofu balls, coated in a sticky rice flake coating, and covered in peanut sauce. Also, their sweet potato and tofu-filled Harmony Dumplings are so good. Their interior is eclectic and colorful, perfect for a fun night out.

IRO Izakaya Vegan

This attractive eatery is a sweet place to enjoy all kinds of Japanese delicacies, including ramen, mochi, curry, udon noodles, and sushi. They also carry a few creative takes like edamame hummus and savory mochi! Their vibe is also relaxing, while still remaining rather polished. Their tan tan ramen wasn’t my favorite ramen, but the appetizers were very tasty!

Neukölln

Alaska Bar

Alaska Bar is a superb spot! With a lively atmosphere and incredible food, you’ll want to hang around for a while. I have only had good food here, and I can especially recommend their Sichuan Patatas Bravas, Almond Ricotta with Grissini, and carrot lox on bread. Bring friends because you’ll want to try everything! For the experience you get and the unique dishes offered, I think that their prices are overall decent as well, ranging from €5 to €12ish per plate. A bottle of red will set you back around €16.

They are also a bar, but their food is still a priority. I will say that on weekends the inside is typically buzzing, but the outside tends to remain chiller. They’re located on a chill street in Neukölln and the interior gives off a sort of shabby chic vibe, which I think suits them well.

Charlottenburg

Vaust

For a fanciful date night complete with several courses, a homely setting, and some German fare, give Vaust a try. Their set menu can be ordered in three, four, or five courses, and starts at around €40, jumping €8 for each additional course. If you’re not as interested in their set menu, you can order from their regular menu which currently offers items like currywurst, marzipan sponge cake served with amaretto, and chickpea fries. I have not yet visited this spot, but it’s been personally recommended to me and it’s high on my list for a special occasion night out.

Sen Vegan

Sen Vegan is a lovely spot in Charlottenburg for reveling in yummy Asian cuisine. If you live in the neighborhood, they’re totally worth a visit. Try one of their Udon dishes!

Kreuzberg

La Petite Veganerie

La Petite Veganerie serves up plant-based French food in a pleasant and comfy environment. They’ve opened up somewhat recently and additionally have a bistro in Schöneberg, perfect for daytime eats. I wasn’t wowed by every dish I tried, but the dishes I did like were very good. The potato tartiflette and beef croquettes are for sure worth the order, but I’d skip the Beef Bourguignon and tarte flambée in the future. I’ll definitely be back because I’d still really like to try their brie and crème brûlée. I also think they deserve some kudos for bringing some really special dishes to Berlin, ones that are virtually impossible to find here otherwise.

Element Five

Element Five has a wide range of Asian tapas to choose from. They have so many yummy versions of plant-based meat, and I especially like their duck and shrimp. Be sure to order a side of rice and one of their signature sauces for more flavor and satiation. On my recent visit, I enjoyed their seitan rice flour cone (#19) and their Korean corn dog (#9). Their food can be a little heavy, but it’s more bang for your buck!

Chay Long

As previously mentioned, in addition to their Prenzlauer Berg location, Chay Long also has a nice location in Kreuzberg, just north of Hasenheide. This location is newer and has a very picturesque interior, complete with a faux cherry blossom tree. Two thumbs up from me!

Schöneberg

Ban Vegan

This restaurant gives off such a warm and friendly vibe, and their amiable staff just adds to that. Their food is full of comfort, heartiness, and flavor. They seem to take great care with their dishes and serve mostly Vietnamese plates, with a few fusion dishes. For fans of truffle (like myself) be sure to give their Madam B udon noodle dish a try.

Mitte

Shisomen Vegan Ramen

Shisomen specializes in plant-based ramen and offers classic choices like Tonkotsu and Tantan, as well as some more intriguing options like Green Cheese Ramen. I opted for their Duck Ramen because of their raving reviews but would try something else next time because I was hoping the broth would be a bit more rich. However, with a bit of chili oil and seasoned sesame seeds, it became a pretty nice bowl! Their plant-based duck also has a very nice texture.

Frea

Frea Bakery is low-waste, locally sourced, and fully vegetarian (formerly fully vegan). Their food scraps are composted and turned into fertilizer that is then returned to their local suppliers, and their baked goods are noticeably fresh and moreish.

Down the street is Frea Restaurant, which shares similar values to their bakery, but instead offers sit-down dinners in a fresh environment. I haven’t eaten at their restaurant yet, but if it’s anything like their bakery, it’s got to be good. By the looks of their modern menu, they seem to offer solely set menus, which are available in three, four, or five courses, with a price tag ranging from €63 to €83, with an additional fee if you’d like wine or alcohol-free drinks to pair with your courses. They offer two versions of their menu which involve their classic house courses or a menu that pertains to the current season.

Iimori Vegan Ramen

Iimori is a top three ramen spot in the city for me, vegan or otherwise. I’ve been a few times and think the Tonkotsu is the best thing on the menu, followed by their Duck Aburasoba. The Tonkotsu is bursting with a satisfying salty garlic flavor and the vegan beef patties that come with the dish are also very good. The Duck Aburasoba is absolutely delicious, so long as you’re okay with no broth. Their fried dumplings really complete the meal, they’re perfect if you appreciate a crispy dumpling. It’s a smaller restaurant, and they don’t accept reservations, but you can aim to get there earlier or honestly, just brave the wait. The Tonkotsu is worth it, trust me.
