Last updated: September 2, 2024

If you’re looking for gluten-free eateries in Germany’s capital for breakfast, lunch, cake, or coffee, look no further. Check out these tasty gluten-free cafés and bakeries in Berlin, and find an accompanying map below.

Aera

Aera is a superb gluten-free bakery serving up toasties, galettes, scones, sandwiches, cakes, cookies, rolls, and other pastries. You can get full loaves or gluten-free dried pasta to go as well, but they don’t come cheap. Be sure to visit the Mitte location for an especially aesthetic atmosphere (although the Charlottenburg location also looks pretty), where you’ll find that the walls and countertops are painted a stunning royal blue.

Aera also serves up the best vegan grilled cheese I’ve ever had. My friend and I were basically in awe the whole meal. I don’t know how they do it! The bread used is a crunchy homemade rosemary sourdough, and the plant-based cheese melts incredibly well between the two slices. The plant-based cheese emulates rich and slightly sharp cheddar, and the flavor profile is very layered, I felt like I was noticing something new with each new bite. It’s a fantastic grilled cheese that can be made classically with cheddar or a vegan cheddar alternative. Go for a slice of seasonal galette too if you’re craving something a bit sweeter.

Pretty Hill

Visit Pretty Hill for simple, quality small plates, plus cake and coffee. They have melts and sandwiches if you’re in the mood for something savory, and if you fancy something sweet try a homemade waffle topped with a scoop of delectable ice cream. Stop in for a morning meal, coffee, and cake in the afternoon, or a takeaway pretzel to enjoy on the go. The atmosphere is also delightfully soft and feminine, with much of the decor and plates colored a soft baby pink. Just lovely!

Trivitys

Trivitys is a hugely underrated café! This sweet spot is amazing for health-conscious peeps, dietary-restricted individuals, or those who just want to try something new! Their café is fully gluten-free, plant-based, and sugar-free. Despite their restrictions, they still manage to be very tasty. The bread they serve is more similar to nutty Nordic bread than a classic soft loaf or crunchy brötchen, but I can appreciate their take nonetheless.

This warm café serves up other fanciful items like raw cakes and superfood drinks. My favorite food they offer is their nut-based cheeses. Go for their mixed cheese plate to sample a few moreish slices and spreads or try their avocado toast, which comes with homemade bread, avocado, cashew cream cheese, cashew flaky cheese, sprouts, and red beet horseradish chutney. I love how creative they are with their dishes and the end result is honestly impressive.

Oshione

Rich in variety and quality, Oshione is certainly a favorite in Berlin’s gluten-free community. It’s truly a gluten-free paradise, serving up plenty of pastries that are nearly impossible to find wheat-free anywhere else in Berlin. Depending on when you visit their options might include cinnamon rolls, banana bread, pesto pizzas, apple cakes, chocolate babkas, plum tarts, lemon poppy seed muffins, or brioche buns.

They’re always cooking up something new and interesting, and chances are it’s going to taste quite good! Be sure to try something both sweet and savory to get a more well-rounded picture of their offerings. Come hungry, and visit earlier in the day if you can, to get a generous pick of goods.

EasyPeasy

For healthy bowls, waffles, toasts, and scrambles in a spacious wholesome environment look no further than EasyPeasy. Their name suits them well, as they’re quite an easygoing and carefree spot, perfect for a nourishing plant-based meal or a bit of coffee and cake. Their motto is ‘something delicious for everyone!’

Glutenfreie Bäckerei Konditorei Eis Voh

This bakery is perfect for cake lovers interested in traditional German cakes. They offer sweets like Sachertorte, Apfelkuchen, Käsekuchen, and Mohnkuchen. You’ll additionally find a solid mix of bread rolls and loaves, but not quite as many savory premade items.

Jute Bäckerei

For gluten-free and organic bread including buns, rolls, baguettes, cookies, tarts, cupcakes, and sandwiches head on over to Jute Bäckerei. They’re keen on helping out those with dietary restrictions and allergies, so feel free to let them know what you can’t have so they can give you a proper recommendation. Plus, plenty of their items are already labeled as egg, dairy, or nut-free within their bakery or on their website. Go for a brioche sandwich or caramel torte, which is what I tried on my last visit.

Brotquelle

Brotquelle is pretty spot on to what a traditional German bakery has to offer, the main difference is everything here is gluten-free! From Bienenstich to Apfeltasche, this is the place to visit for delicious wheat-free German goods in a modest café environment. Be sure to try the Franzbrötchen! The owner is Colombian so you also get the added bonus of a few Latin American offerings like buñuelos and empanadas.
