Rocket + Basil
This stellar spot has been popular since they first opened their doors. Now that their lines are much shorter (although you’ll still have to get there early to avoid waiting on weekends) we can all enjoy their Middle Eastern and traditional Western brunch fusion which includes rotating goodies like their pistachio rosewater cake and flaky sausage roll. Their interior is also really pretty, and it’s a lovely spot, although a bit on the smaller side. However, seating doubles in the warmer months with their outdoor tables.
I’m a fan of SO MUCH here! Their fried potatoes served with egg, greens, vegetables, herbs, and Greek yogurt are superb. Their coffee is also strong and well-made, I especially like their flat whites. Their sausage roll with tomato sauce is drool-worthy. Their tahini carrot sandwich and herbaceous kale carrot plate are also so good. Their fresh and quality ingredients make for a heartwarming meal, best shared among friends. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is their cheese sandwich, which was just too heavy and oily for me. It’s a must-visit! They unfortunately only serve proper brunch on the weekends, but on the weekdays they’re open for limited hours selling sandwiches and some baked goods. On weekdays you can order these dishes beforehand online or get there early to get a better selection since they typically sell out.

The Rabbit Café
This café also has not one, but TWO adorable resident Shiba Inus, and quite frankly that’s enough of a reason to visit. If for some reason that’s not enough, they also serve a truly incredible egg drop sandwich. It’s a contender for the best sandwich on this list and part of their edge is the fluffy buttered brioche the sandwiches are served on. There are also a few sauces added giving it great creamy and spicy flavor notes.
It’s so thick that it’s easier to eat it with a fork and knife! The base price is €7 which isn’t bad considering the quality and size. You can also add caramelized onions, avocado, smoked salmon, bacon, or Bulgogi for a few bucks extra. The Bulgogi is fantastic but now costs a whopping €4 extra (it was €2 extra for so long!).

Cafe Buondi
Located around the corner from Naturkundemuseum, this café is a wonderful spot for enjoying delicious brunch in a bright and airy environment. Start your day with one of their flavor-filled sandwiches. I opted for their roast beef variation which included a delicious chimichurri mayo that made the meal especially tasty. I’d love to try their Spanish eggs or chorizo sandwich on my next visit.

Erchy’s
Erchy’s is a bright plant-filled café home to friendly service and yummy vegetarian and vegan dishes. The interior is airy and homey, and the sidewalk seating is excellent for soaking up some sun on a warm day. They have a few pastry and drink options, plus some solid larger plates if you’re feeling more than a little peckish. I can vouch for their hummus plate which came with crunchy sourdough topped with hummus, cauliflower, carrot, sprouts, and seeds. My favorite dish here is the Pink Bowl which is perfect if you love garlicky, savory plates. The pistachio croissant is also so good!

Choriner Straße 84 | €€-€€€
Lucy’s
Lucy’s has two sweet health food cafés in Mitte, just down the street from one another. I’ve only been to the Torstraße location, but I had a good time trying their ‘pick three’ salad dish. You can also just pick one salad as a side if you’re less hungry. They have rotating daily options for this particular dish so you can try an array of fantastic combos depending on when you visit. If they happen to have their potato tahini salad on offer when you visit be sure to try that one!
Typically all their base salads are vegan, but you have the option of adding toppings like feta. You’ll also find smoothies, juices, mixed veggie toasts, proper brunch, and more. Their dressed banana bread is a nourishing choice, although it does taste a bit healthy, if you know what I mean.
Their Brunnenstraße location appears to be quite a bit smaller but offers rather similar food offerings.

Café de Luna
Café de Luna is a cute spot to enjoy decadent drinks (their rose blue latte is my favorite), scrumptious egg drop sandwiches (the bulgogi variation is nice), and yummy cakes (vegan matcha crepe cake for the WIN!). The seating is limited (although there are more seating options downstairs) and it’s a bit pricier, but also overall a nice treat and brunch spot.

Sunday Brunch at Hotel Grenzfall
Dreaming of a buffet Sunday brunch? Look no further than Hotel Grenzfall! Conveniently located just steps from the Berlin Wall Memorial, perfect if you want to pair a bit of historical sightseeing with an indulgent breakfast. Every first and third Sunday of the month they offer a decadent brunch served in their bright and airy dining room. The brunch costs €29 per person, but children up to the age of 14 only pay their age. Along with unlimited brunch, you’ll also get water, juice, and tea, along with one welcome drink and coffee drink, which you can order from your table.
On my recent visit, I opted for a cappuccino and a flute of champagne. You can find the buffet brunch in two rooms. The first room has typical German hotel breakfast offerings like eggs, sausage, sliced cheese, sliced meat, fruit, müsli, fresh vegetables, and yogurt. The second room has a wide array of choices. On my visit, I found schnitzel, crêpe, shakshuka, meatballs, pasta salad, creamy chicken, stewed beef, potato gratin, chicken drumsticks, falafel, pasta salad, tarts, cake, croissants, and more. Yum! They cook all their food in smaller batches to avoid waste, but have a sign indicating they’re willing to prepare more of anything, and just to let them know if something is out. The food was delicious and afterwards, you can go explore the hotel’s tranquil backyard, complete with lovely gardens, a pond, and lounging areas.

19grams
Founded in 2002, this sweet OG specialty coffee and brunch spot is an excellent place to get your day started. I’ve only tried a Reuben Sandwich and flat white so far, and I was more than satisfied.
At their Kreuzberg location, I liked their Reuben was expertly paired with crunchy housemade carrot sourdough, Swiss Gruyère cheese, remoulade, pickle, and sauerkraut. Their Bubble and Squeak Benedict also looked absolutely delicious. I believe their Mitte locations don’t offer as many options, particularly the Chaussee location only has a few mains to choose from. The broccoli cheddar toasties at both Mitte locations look good though.
They also accept reservations!

Puffle Bees
Puffle Bees specializes in croffles, which I believe involves croissant dough cooked in a waffle iron. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and fantastic all around. There are around twenty variations to choose from, and I absolutely loved their peanut butter and banana version which included salted whipped peanut butter, grilled bananas, and candied nuts. Yum!
They also sell egg drop sandwiches. We tried both their Bulgogi Beef and Scampi sandwiches and they were so tasty, and I want to try their avocado and chicken versions next time. Be sure to try something sweet and savory when you visit. Paired with a lavender latte, I was in heaven!

SOFI
This new-wave bakery is located inside a charming and quiet courtyard in the center of Mitte. The inside is cozy and minimalist with an open kitchen, whereas the outside is airy and peaceful. You’ll encounter a nice mix of loaves, pastries, sandwiches, plates, and cakes. Their bread is thick and light on the inside, and crispy and chewy on the outside. Their morning plate is a nice start to the day and comes with sliced bread, whipped butter, soft-boiled egg, sliced cheese, and an (unnecessarily) generous helping of flaky salt. They also have rotating specials including a leek and kimchi grilled cheese that I’ve been eager to try.
Try: Cardamom bun
Sophienstraße 21 | €-€€
Father Carpenter
Father Carpenter is one of my favorite brunch spots in the neighborhood. I just think their courtyard is so pretty and picturesque, and simply being present here puts me in good spirits. During the summer their rosemary spritz and iced chai are both super nice choices, and their house Egg Benedict is equally as tasty! They’re honestly too pricey for me to visit very much, but I’ve had a great experience with each encounter.
Try: Father Carpenter Benedict
Münzstraße 21 | €€€
Aera
Plant-based and gluten-free peeps: listen up! Aera is a fully gluten-free bakery with plenty of great plant-based choices. What stands out most to me is their rosemary vegan grilled cheese, which is easily one of the best vegan sandwiches I’ve ever had. They also serve a classic cheddar grilled cheese that I’m sure is also tasty. Plus, their seasonal galettes are so good! Their interior is gorgeous too, with minimalist decor framed by walls painted in a vibrant royal blue color.

Blumental
For a feel-good breakfast in a modern space look no further than Blumental. They’re a plant-forward brunch spot bordering Kreuzberg home to tasty vegan cakes and excellent healthy dishes packed with seasonal produce and flavor. Their staff is super friendly too so you’ll feel right at home. Be sure to take a peek at their composting machine ‘Berta’ in the back of the restaurant which takes care of all their organic waste.
Try: The Blumental

Breggs
Breggs is home to a ton of egg drop sandwich variations! What can I say, Mitte is just the place to be if you like this sandwich combo. While I appreciate the variety of ingredient combinations offered (from burger patties to truffles to roast beef slices) I’m not as big of a fan of their take. However, if you’re in the neighborhood and are craving an egg drop they still might be worth a try! I will note that I have been meaning to give them another try since I’ve only visited once and it was just a couple weeks after they first opened. I think next time I’ll try their mushroom version. They also offer snacks like tater tots which look like they could be tasty and are hard to find in Berlin.
Try: Classic Egg Drop
Oranienburger Straße 84 | €-€€
Distrikt Coffee
Distrikt Coffee is a solid classic Berlin brunch spot. The interior walls are painted a soft peach and lined with brick, and light trickles in from their broad windows on a clear day. Modern and lush, and quite popular among brunch connoisseurs in the city. . . I would say it’s worth the hype. Their French toast is rich, but maybe a little too sweet for me. Their Spicy Ragu on the other hand was practically perfect. Paired with sourdough toast, Italian sausage, chickpeas, Parmesan, and a poached egg, making for a really tasty mix of flavors. My only (ever so slight) complaint is their liberal use of the word spicy. . . flavorful yes, but spicy? Not even for Berlin standards.
Try: Spicy* Ragu on Sourdough Toast
Bergstraße 68 | €€-€€€
*This is just me being extra, I don’t mind that they call their dish spicy.
Daluma
Love her or hate her, Daluma is that girl. Are their dishes and drinks hella pricey? Yes and yes. Have I loved everything I’ve tried here? Also, yes. They make healthy choices taste so good and serve the kind of feel-good taste-good food and drinks I’d love to eat all the time. What’s that one Tiktok trend? “If I won the lotteryTikTokuldn’t tell anyone, but there would be signs?” Yup, catch me eating at Daluma more than twice a month ( or *gasp* buying any of their skincare/vitamin products), know things are going very well for me.
Anywho, all jokes aside I can highly recommend trying their green noodle dish, especially if you appreciate truffle flavor! The avocado toast and kimchi chicken pita are also nice options. If you opt for a drink I like ordering an iced matcha with rice coconut milk.
Try: Truffle Healing Green Noodles, Avocado Toast
Weinbergsweg 3 | €€€
Zeit für Brot
Time for bread! Although Zeit für Brot didn’t start in Berlin, they grew to be quite popular here. They use no additives, are sourdough-focused, and create high-quality freshly baked bread. One of their most popular items is their cinnamon rolls, but I typically go for an egg sandwich or cardamom bun. The time and day of the week you visit can greatly vary what they have available, but there’s always enough for a casual meal or brekkie of baked goods. They have two locations in Mitte (I prefer the Alte Schönhauser one between the two) and a few other locations in Berlin and around Germany.
Try: Cardamom Bun

Baffel’s
I stumbled upon this humble little cafe after Distrikt Coffee’s queue was too long one day, and I’m so glad I did. I enjoyed a bagel topped with greens, cream cheese, egg, and Italian seasoning. The caramel macchiato and carrot cake hit the spot, and next time I think I’ll try a waffle too.
Try: Sesame bagel with egg and cream cheese, Carrot cake

This café caters to healthy eaters, is fully vegetarian (with a few creative vegan dishes), and especially for you if you’re a fan of egg-based breakfast dishes.

Frea Bakery
This bakery is low-waste, locally sourced, and fully vegetarian. Their food scraps are composted and turned into fertilizer that is then returned to their local suppliers. Their baked goods are also fully plant-based! Their Spandauer with vanilla crème is especially amazing, and their poppy seed and marzipan twist is perfect if you don’t like overly sweet pastries. Their house breakfast is also great and although the price is notably steeper than the rest of their items, at €20, it’s a big enough portion that you can easily split it between two people. The dish includes croissants, brioche, brötchen, butter, spreads, fresh and cooked vegetables, plus hummus. As a savory gal, I gravitate towards their tomato tasche or one of their vegan cheese and veggie croissants.
Try: Tomato Tasche
Gartenstraße 9 | €-€€€
Avocado Club
The perfect place for avocado lovers: nearly every dish and even some of their drinks incorporate avocado. 🥑 It’s also a nice spot if you’re craving a healthier brunch since they offer smoothie bowls and plenty of vegetable-based dishes, plus salads become available after noon. I recommend their avocado coffee, but the consistency is thicker and chunky even when mixed so keep that in mind if you have texture sensitivities.
Try: Avocado and Chicken Waffle
Dircksenstraße 47 | €€-€€€
Still On My List:
House of Small Wonder
House of Small Wonder is a Japanese fusion brunch restaurant. Most dishes have just a touch of Japanese inspiration like their Eggs Benedict with wasabi hollandaise sauce. Still on my list!
YADA YADA Breakfast Club
I lived a ten minute walk from this spot for three years and never visited! I’d like to one day though. They’ve got bagels, pancakes, and other brekkie plates.
YUNA
Home to sandwiches and snacky breakfast plates. Looks tasty!
Meet Me Halfway
This breakfast spot offers Western and Persian fusion dishes. I’d love to give them a visit.
