The Best Brunch Spots in Neukölln, Berlin

Last updated: November 17, 2024

There might not be a better place in Berlin to have your first meal of the day than Neukölln. It’s a hipster paradise that values its immigrant roots and has a lot of heart. Neukölln is the place to be for an assortment of coffee shops, bistros, and a mix of humble and aesthetically pleasing dining.

Harvest

Truly some of the best brunch I’ve had in Berlin this year and I thought the prices were totally fair. The curried cauliflower sandwich was salty, satiating, and aromatic, while the cheesy scrambled eggs were super herbal and cheesy. They also carry a few baked goods from Albatross. We ended up trying the Queen A, which was a pleasantly chewy honey and sea salt brioche. Their menu is fully vegetarian and evolves seasonally.

If it’s warm enough to sit outside the neighboring square has a fun and eclectic atmosphere, and the interior is also quite cozy. The iced flat white I had was so nice, I like the big chunks of ice they use. Prices are also pretty fair, especially for having such a contemporary and trendy aesthetic. Meals cost between €5.50 to €10.50.

21 Gramm

21 Gramm is a bewitching cafe built into a former chapel, which was mainly used for funeral services in the past. Nowadays the classic style of the chapel mixes well with the new contemporary manner, and their unique, yet unpretentious setting is sure to win you over. I'm a big fan of their breakfast burger, but you also can’t go wrong with their buttermilk pancakes, which are made with an apple and rose compote, crème fraîche, basil, salted pumpkin seeds, and cardamom syrup.

Katie’s Blue Cat

The owners of this English-American café hoped to create a space where English speakers could find a home away from home, while also making locals and people of all backgrounds feel welcomed. This spot is cozy and sweet with a Brooklyn, New York kind of vibe. Go for the homemade bread and cheddar plate, it’s fresh and tasty!

Vux

Vux is a local vegan café serving specialty coffee, smoothies, cakes, bagels, sandwiches, and more. The prices are more than reasonable and the service is also super sweet which helps make this spot one of the most charming neighborhood cafés in the neighborhood.

Café bRICK

I was wandering around Neukölln looking for a place to have breakfast when I found this cozy spot! Their bagel sandwiches are impressive and almost hard to eat — they come stacked so high! The bagel I ordered here is quite possibly the best bagel sandwich I’ve had in the city, plus it comes on a homemade bagel. It’s an everything bagel filled with bacon, egg, halloumi, tomato cream cheese, pickle, jalapeño, and greens. Their breakfast plates looked delicious as well, and I will most definitely visit again.

Isla Coffee

I came here once a while ago, but I had to include it because the mushroom sandwich I had here was so perfectly tangy and peppery! They have a special brunch menu on weekends, pride themselves on their coffee, and use cups made from recycled coffee grinds. What’s not to like?

Gözleme

Be sure to try the manti and get extra garlic — absolutely delicious! If you haven’t tried manti before it’s a Turkish dish that consists of stuffed dough (kind of like ravioli) filled with potato or meat. Here it’s also served with yogurt, chili oil, and lots of garlic. The service might be a tad slow, but the prices are reasonable for the portion and taste, and the food is very good.

Try: Meat manti, Potato gözleme, Cheese gözleme
Karl-Marx-Straße 35 | €-€€

Sfera

Sfera’s got some fancier plates and a more limited menu, featuring thoughtfully prepared and creative dishes. Definitely go for their deviled potato dish (the creaminess and deviled egg flavoring were divine) and their shredded tofu potato fennel medley on sourdough was also yummy. I was not very fond of their winter take on French Toast which involved baked pears (the one bit I liked), bay leaf custard cream (the flavor was really lacking on this one), almond crumble, and plum powder. Their summer take involves blackberries and tarragon, it looks much tastier.

Radikalecher

This homey vegan café has plenty of stellar dishes including bagels, waffles, scrambled tofu, porridge, and cakes. It’s such a sweet spot and the price-to-quality ratio is top-notch!

Kitten Deli

Kitten Deli is a fantastic spot for hummus lovers, particularly if you’re keen on sabich — picture baked potatoes, hummus, eggplant, egg, olive oil, pita, and spices. Yum! They’re a pleasant spot to start the day and totally worth a visit.

Try: Sabich
Friedelstraße 30 | €€€

Venue

Venue is perfect for anyone who has a hard time deciding what to order. Here you can get a tapas-style breakfast and pick out your favorite small dishes to try in mini-plates of three, five, and seven. There's a regular menu to order from too! It can be more on the pricey side for their smaller portions, but I still totally recommend them.

Lonely Hearts Café

Fancy a full English? You can find a few types of fry-ups here, along with American pancake slams, and plant-based variations of both. I tried the Vegan American Grand Slam and honestly, I thought it was just okay (it was kind of dry throughout), especially for the price. However, the classic pancake plate was tasty! The space is quite cute too, all done up like a nostalgic diner.

The syrup is also good and they succeed in capturing the essence of American diner drip coffee. The wait can be very long on weekends, especially if you’re visiting with a group so get there before/after brunch rush or be prepared to wait.

That Pink Café (Nothaft Sister Café)

This lightly adorned café is home to a harmonious setting featuring vintage furniture, a muted green palette, and relaxed embellishments, including scattered potted plants and a classic wooden chess board. The whole café is laptop-friendly, and you’ll find varied seating options like a large central table and single-person classroom-style desks. The space is quite airy and as a result, can be chilly in the colder months.

I’ve liked all the food and drinks I’ve had here. The vegan avocado sandwich is creamy and full-flavored, the chai latte is generously poured, and the pastries are mostly plant-based and so tasty (I especially like the Raspberry Danish). The grilled cheese is also a good choice!

Nah am Wasser

This East-side spot has a lot of heart and character. Try one of their breakfast platters for a hearty meal, and save room for a sweet treat afterward. Enjoy fun seating inside or sit at tables by the river outside, and take a charming tree-lined walk along the canal after your meal.
